Hi, I'm Dr. Melanie Bowden
Providing the relief you need.
Hello! I am a 2016 Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine Graduate who has been practicing companion animal, emergency, and limited exotic medicine. I have worked in a variety of practice settings including corporate, family-owned, and emergency. I am accustomed to fast-paced settings where I am responsible for up to 20 patients a day. As a Fear-Free Certified veterinarian, I focus on pets' emotional and physical comfort during examination and care. Through my positions I have been able to become highly comfortable and confident in surgery and dentistry, as well.
As a relief veterinarian, I look forward to working with other members of the field to provide the work-life balance that associates and owners need. Veterinary medicine is very rewarding as a profession, but also can be draining. We all need the opportunity to take time off and not worry about patient and client care.
How Do I book relief work?
Please look at my calendar to see if the days you need are available. If so the best way to reach me is email. (see below). My relief prices are based on the type of coverage you need me to provide. See the services page. Outside of this, additional charges may include housing and travel costs. For local relief that I can drive to, I charge 50 cents per mile. For anything over 60 miles from my home expect to also reimburse hotel costs. I can provide estimates for your specific situation.
I also provide public speaking engagements. In January of 2020 I was accepted to speak at TED X Coeur D'Alene an official TED event. The video went viral and has been seen around the world in countries on every continent (except Antarctica).
Since 2016 I have also done public speaking for colleges and universities, as well as, pre-veterinary groups. I am passionate about mentoring others in the field and sharing my experiences. I have also been interviewed for VIN News, veterinary podcasts and have written articles for the WSVMA.
If you are interested and having me come and speak at your event or watching my TED Talk, please see my "speakers" page.
